Giovanni Scarola

An ATIO-certified Italian translator, Giovanni has over 30 years of Canadian experience in translation, journalism, broadcasting, and copywriting. A native Italian speaker raised in Tuscany, Italy, he is fluent in both Italian and English and translates from French. Other languages studied include German, Latin, and ancient Greek.

Giovanni is a former reporter, editorial coordinator and business editor at the Italian daily newspaper Corriere Canadese. He also took on roles as TV and radio reporter, host, anchor, and moderator. Other past engagements include his work as assistant to a member of the Italian Parliament and as administrative secretary of Comites, a not-for-profit Italian institution established by Consular Decree. Thanks to his long involvement in volunteerism, he has been appointed Knight of the Star of Italy.

Giovanni holds a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in Italian Studies granted by the University of Toronto, and an Honours B.A. in Humanities earned in Tuscany, Italy. He has published a book based on his Italian thesis and numerous articles in academic journals. He often speaks on literary subjects at international conferences.
